Anxiety Counseling | Atlanta Suwanee Gwinnett

Anxiety sucks. But do you need anxiety counseling?

The thing that makes it even worse is anxiety and depression often go hand-in-hand leaving you with a double whammy not knowing where to even start to untangle it. Throw in some stress and maybe a bit of perfectionism, and it’s easy to let your thoughts and feelings fall into a negative spiral.

It’s really tricky to get past all of this on your own. This is especially true you didn’t happen to be born knowing how to handle it and didn’t grow up in a family that showed you how to. So, that’s why we’re here. We can help you navigate this.  We’ll help you put together a solid set of coping skills to minimize your distress and then help you dig in to those underlying reasons you feel this way in the first place.

Is anxiety normal?

Having some anxiety is totally normal and just one of the available human emotions. A healthy amount of anxiety keeps us focused on what needs to be done. For most people it comes and goes based on what else is going on.

Sometimes it feels like anxiety is taking over your entire life. Anxiety can make you feel trapped and stuck as if you’re frozen while everyone goes about their life. You make look great on the outside, but inside, it feels like a jumbled mess.

When the symptoms of anxiety start to get in the way of your being able to do your job, have good relationships, and just generally live your life, it’s time to take a different approach. If this sounds like you, you don’t have to figure it out alone — we can help.

Anxiety Symptoms and Treatment

  • Nervousness, restlessness or being tense
  • Feelings of danger, panic or dread
  • Rapid breathing or hyperventilation
  • Increased or heavy sweating
  • Trembling or muscle twitching
  • Weakness or lethargy
  • Difficulty focusing or thinking clearly about anything other than the thing you’re worried about
  • Insomnia
  • Obsessions about certain ideas, a sign of obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Anxiety surrounding a particular life event or experience that has occurred in the past, a sign of post-traumatic stress disorder

Research shows that talk therapy is usually the most effective option. That’s because anxiety therapy – as opposed to anxiety medication – treats more than just symptoms to the problem.

Anxiety counseling can help to uncover the underlying causes of your worries and fears, learn how to relax, look at situations in a new, less frightening way, and develop better coping mechanisms and problem-solving skills.

If you suffer from anxiety, haven’t you suffered long enough?
