LGBT counseling: Stigma-free, allied, and affirming

Are you in need of LGBT Counseling? Do you live outside of the whole hetero/cis box? Have you talked to counselors who say they’re “LGBT friendly” but don’t seem to get it? Could you use a safe space to work through your feelings and think about your goals? Are you looking to talk about your relationship with someone who gets it?

Even though society is changing quickly and there is more acceptance of diverse sexual and romantic orientations and gender identity, you can’t be sure where you’re safe to be yourself. The risks of opening up to the wrong person can feel overwhelming. The stigma is real.

If you can relate to any of the above, then know you’re welcome here. No judgments. No biases. Just a safe, supportive space to work through your stuff. We accept you for who you are and believe you are the expert in your own life.

Challenges

On top of all of the issues that other people have to deal with like family, relationships, job, finances, health issues, stress, anxiety, and depression, you have additional issues to face because you’re a member of the LGBT community. Including:

  • homophobia or transphobia
  • discrimination
  • safety
  • coming out

Whether you’re wanting therapy to deal with the every day stuff or the issues more unique to people in the LGBT community, you need qualified help. You may be working through issues associated with your sexual, romantic, or gender identity or you may be “just” dealing with your general mental health — either way, we know that it’s important that your counselor is both knowledgeable and supportive.

LGBT+ Folx Welcome Here

As a core value of our practice, all members of our staff identify as being LGBT+ allied and affirming. Additionally, we support equal civil rights and gender equality and are committed to challenging homophobia and transphobia. LGBT+ people face discrimination and have challenges that heterosexual and cisgender people don’t ever have to think about.

We’re not casual about being a “safe space”, we are fully committed to being educated and up-to-date on issues related to our clients. Our clients don’t have to do the emotional work to train us in the basics.  We want to help you with what you need and don’t need you to do the heavy lifting of educating us.

Listen, we also get it that sometimes being allies is not enough. Sometimes you may need to be connected to a member of your own community who is also in this business. If you need need more than we can give, we are always open to providing referrals to colleagues who specifically specialize in these issues.

Parents and Families of LGBT Folx

Not only are LGBT folx welcome here, but we also have a heart for helping parents and families of LGBT people get up-to-speed. If you want to be supportive, you may need someone to help you learn the lingo, guide you in learning about the issues, or help you process your complicated feelings.

You are not alone and don’t have to figure it out alone. We can help.
