offering in-person services in Suwanee and online counseling throughout Georgia
Hi, I’m DJ.
I help strong people escape the weight of other people’s expectations so they can feel confident without feeling out of control. My clients struggle like you do. Despite being independent, intelligent, and as indestructible as a diamond… life is hard.
When they first come in, they feel both comfortable and stuck. Being “the strong one” is a point of pride, but it also brings up painful and overwhelming feelings. They are world-class experts at masking their true feelings and leading others to believe that they’re fine, safe, and happy. No matter how much they do, their inner critic kept accusing them of being lazy and selfish.
Their drive to be seen and appreciated gets in the way of the relationships they want to have. They feel like no one notices the pressure they’re under (“pressure like a drip, drip, drip that’ll never stop”*). Even when they try to ask for help, no one seems to hear their cries for help. When they try to explain how they feel, no one seems to get it, so they end up feeling invalidated and misunderstood.
Before they came to see me, they were trying to think of ways to escape. Intellectually they knew that they were supposed to do things like self-care, have boundaries, and ask for help. But they were worried that if they weren’t doing all the things, they’d be a burden to others and worthless.
Like my clients, you deserve to feel a powerful sense of peace. Your worth is not determined by how much you’re doing. You deserve to be able to exhale, let go, and not have to be the fixer. Feeling in control of your life is not out of your reach. You can shake things up so you feel joy, relaxed, and able to enjoy simple pleasures.
I’d love to help you prioritize yourself and develop a more balanced new normal.
