Therapy for Teens, College Students, and Young Adults Who Feel Anxious, Overwhelmed, or Stuck
You might look like you’re doing fine on the outside.
You’re in school, working, trying to figure out your life, or trying to keep up with everything people expect from you.
But internally, it feels very different.
You might feel anxious all the time, overwhelmed by school or work, unsure about your future, struggling with relationships, or feeling like everyone else has life figured out except you. You might overthink everything, feel burned out, or feel stuck and not sure what direction you’re supposed to be going.
A lot of teens and young adults feel this way, but they don’t always know who to talk to or how to explain what’s going on.
We provide online therapy across Illinois for teens, college students, and young adults dealing with anxiety, trauma, burnout, identity questions, and life transitions through online therapy, EMDR therapy, and anxiety counseling.
Most of the teens and young adults we work with are thoughtful, responsible, and trying really hard to do the right things with their life.
They’re often dealing with a lot of pressure. School, grades, college decisions, jobs, family expectations, relationships, and trying to figure out who they are and where they’re going.
From the outside, they may look like they’re doing okay.
They’re going to school, working, hanging out with friends, and functioning day to day.
But internally, they may feel anxious, overwhelmed, lost, burned out, or like they’re falling behind everyone else. Many of them overthink everything, worry about the future, feel pressure to succeed, or feel like they don’t really fit anywhere.
Some are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, family stress, identity questions, or feeling unsure about what they’re supposed to do with their life.
That’s where therapy can help.
Most teens and young adults who start therapy aren’t dealing with just one problem. They’re usually feeling anxious, overwhelmed, unsure about the future, stressed about school or work, and hard on themselves all at the same time. Therapy helps us understand why things feel this difficult and how to start changing the patterns that keep showing up.
Empower Counseling provides online therapy across Illinois, including online EMDR therapy, trauma therapy, and anxiety counseling for teens, college students, and young adults. Our therapists work with neurodivergent clients, LGBTQ+ clients, and young people navigating school stress, life transitions, and identity development through secure virtual therapy sessions available throughout Illinois.
We work with teens and young adults across Illinois through secure online therapy. Many students and young adults prefer online therapy because it fits more easily into school schedules, work schedules, and busy lives.
Online therapy also makes it easier for students who live at home, on campus, or who move between school and home to continue therapy without interruption.
Online therapy allows you to work with a therapist who specializes in EMDR, anxiety, trauma, identity development, and neurodivergence, even if there aren’t therapists with those specialties in your local area.
As long as you are physically located in Illinois at the time of your session, we can work with you through secure virtual therapy.

Most teens and young adults don’t start therapy because everything completely fell apart. They usually start therapy because they feel overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or unsure what to do next, and they don’t want to keep feeling this way.
Online therapy makes it easier to actually start therapy and keep going.
Students and young adults often have busy schedules, changing schedules, or transportation challenges. Some live at home, some live on campus, and some move between school and home throughout the year. Online therapy makes it easier to keep therapy consistent even when your schedule or location changes.
Many people also feel more comfortable talking from their own room, dorm, or private space instead of sitting in a therapist’s office. Being in a familiar environment can make it easier to open up and talk about difficult things.
Online therapy also allows you to work with a therapist who specializes in anxiety, trauma, identity development, and neurodivergence, even if there aren’t therapists with those specialties in your local area.
For many teens and young adults, online therapy just makes therapy easier to start, easier to attend, and easier to stick with long enough for real change to happen.
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you’ve never talked to a therapist before or you’re not sure how therapy even works. Most teens and young adults who reach out to us don’t have everything figured out. They just know they feel stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or unhappy and don’t want to keep feeling that way.
That’s usually where we start.
We provide online therapy across Illinois for teens, college students, and young adults dealing with anxiety, trauma, burnout, identity questions, relationship stress, and life transitions. Because therapy is online, you can attend sessions from home, your dorm, your apartment, or anywhere private in Illinois.
Getting started is simple.
First, you schedule a Start Here call. This is a short, low-pressure call where we talk a little about what’s going on and help match you with the therapist on our team who is the best fit for you. You can ask questions, learn how therapy works, and decide if this feels like the right place for you.
If it feels like a good fit, we schedule your intake and begin therapy.
If it doesn’t, that’s okay too. We’ll help point you in the right direction.
You don’t have to have the right words.
You don’t have to know exactly what’s wrong.
You don’t have to be in crisis to start therapy.
You just have to be at the point where you don’t want to handle everything by yourself anymore.
We’ll take it from there.
